What is a fantasy map maker?
It's a tool for drawing the map of a world that doesn't exist: coastlines, mountain ranges, forests, rivers, roads, kingdoms and the cities along them.
How do I make a fantasy map online?
Start your Quill&Steel OS free trial, open Maps and create a map. Draw a landmass, brush in the terrain, add rivers and roads, stamp mountains and towns where you want them, then label the places and pin the ones that already have articles. It saves as you go.
Is this a fantasy map generator?
No. A generator rolls a random continent that nobody wrote, and you spend the next hour bending your story around it. Here you draw the world you already have in your head, and every continent, country and river stays editable afterwards.
Can I make a parchment-style map?
Yes. Aged parchment is one of the two backgrounds, the terrain brushes carry their own textures, and labels can sit on ribbons or plaques for the old hand-drawn look.
Can I link my lore to the map?
Yes, and it's the main reason to draw your map here. A pin points at a real entry in your world, so clicking the capital opens the city's article, with the characters, cultures and history attached to it.
Can I use it for D&D maps?
For world, region and kingdom maps, yes, and you can export them as handouts for your players. It isn't a battle-map tool: there's no square grid or dungeon tile set, so encounter maps still belong somewhere else.
Can I trace a map I already drew?
Yes. Upload it as a reference image, fade it back, and draw your coastlines and borders over the top. It's the quickest way to bring a paper sketch, or a map made in another tool, into your world.
How is this different from Inkarnate or Wonderdraft?
Those are dedicated art tools with far bigger art libraries, and if the picture itself is the goal they're hard to beat. What they can't do is know your world.
